Shoulder and Knee
Dr. Nicolas Bonnaig is board certified by the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgeons and is fellowship trained in sports medicine. In addition
to sports medicine, his specialties include shoulder, knee, arthroscopic
surgery, reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee, general orthopaedics
and fracture care. Dr. Bonnaig also performs total and reverse total shoulder
replacements. He sees patients in the East Cobb and Marietta offices.
Dr. Bonnaig graduated from
Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Minor in Chemistry. He
received his Medical Degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN and
completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati. He
then completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at The Campbell Clinic in
Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Bonnaig has received
numerous academic honors and awards including graduating Cum Laude from Meharry
Medical College, the Matthew Walker Surgical Society Award -awarded to the top
medical student in surgery, and the Boston College AHANA Scholars Award. During
his fellowship training he served as an assistant team physician for the NBA's
Memphis Grizzlies, University of Memphis, and the Triple A affiliate for the
Saint Louis Cardinals, the Memphis Red Birds. He has served as team physician
for local area high schools in Memphis and Cincinnati and has served as the
team physician for Lassiter High School and The Walker School in Marietta,
Georgia. He is currently a team physician for Kennesaw State University in
Kennesaw, Georgia. He has been named a "Top Doctor in Sports
Medicine" by Georgia Trend.
Dr. Bonnaig also serves as a board examiner for the
American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) helping to ensure that future
orthopaedic surgeons continue to practice evidenced-based orthopaedic care in a
safe and effective manner.
Dr. Bonnaig has been involved in research and education. He has published articles and textbook chapters related to injuries of the Shoulder, Elbow and Knee and has given lectures to Orthopaedic Residents in training, Physical Therapists, and Athletic Trainers. "Dr. Bonnaig has also been selected as a medical research reviewer for Anterior Cruciate Ligament tear (ACL tear) injuries for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Specifically, he reviews new research on this area and how it can contribute to the medical literature.
Dr. Bonnaig and his wife live
in Marietta with their children. During his free time, he enjoys playing
sports, international travel, and spending time with his family.
